Dr Michael Izard began his medical career at The Middlesex Hospital in London. Moving to Australia he completed training in radiation oncology at Sydney's St Vincent's and Westmead Hospitals in 1993, with further Fellowship training at The Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto, Canada. Dr Izard consults at different Sydney hospitals, attending their MDTs, and is actively involved in teaching at undergraduate and post-graduate level.

He is an invited member to the NSW Board of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, is an invited member of the Specialist Medical Review Council of the Department of Veterans Affairs and previously sat with the Executive Committee of the Australasian Society of Breast Diseases and is the current Head of Department of Cancer Medicine at The Mater Hospital. His specialities include prostate cancer and breast cancer, with a particular interest in brachytherapy, and is the lead Radiation Oncologist for the Gamma Knife unit at Macquarie University Hospital.

He is active in Multidisciplinary meetings in these and other areas. He has been published in international journals, including his prostate brachytherapy results. He enjoys teaching and sees his role not just in patient management but also information and education.
