FREE healthy lifestyle program

survivorship 1

GenesisCare is working with Cancer Council NSW to deliver the ENRICHing Survivorship program to local communities - to motivate, empower and improve survivor’s lifestyle behaviours post treatment.

Over the course of the program attendees will:

  • Hear nutrition recommendations to help them make better food choices, facilitated by an Accredited Practicing Dietitian
  • Find out how to safely improve their fitness, muscle strength and stamina. Begin to reduce fatigue, nausea, pain and anxiety by increasing exercise, facilitated by an Exercise Physiologist
  • Practice yoga & mindfulness techniques designed to improve sleep and reduce anxiety, guided by a qualified yoga instructor
  • Connect with others on a similar journey, share tips and ideas to help live their life well.

B2 Chat Room is an informal get together of women who underwent or are undergoing radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy for breast cancer treatment. Intended for those treated at Genesis CancerCare, but open to all with similar breast cancer experiences. If you would like to join us, please speak to our Hurstville team.

Look Good Feel Better Workshops 2017

Look Good Feel Better (LGFB) is a free community service program dedicated to teaching cancer patients how to manage the appearance-related side-effects caused by cancer treatment. Women participate in a practical workshop that covers skincare, make-up and headwear demonstrations, leaving them empowered and ready to face their cancer diagnosis with confidence.

The LGFB workshop runs for approximately two hours, with a focus on practical tips and tricks to help patients overcome temporary changes to their appearance as a result of chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

Melanoma Support Group

3rd Wednesday of each month, 6:30pm–8:30pm
The Poche Centre, 40 Rocklands Road, North Sydney

Facilitator: Jay Allen (0430 933 012), stage 3 melanoma patient

Sydney Breast Cancer Boot Camp

Specifically designed for breast cancer patients either receiving or having completed treatment. The focus is on strength gains and conditioning, the two biggest losses during breast cancer treatment. There is a maximum of 30 people with 3 trainers and it’s FREE to breast cancer patients (with a one off registration fee of $9).

North Shore Prostate Cancer Support Group

From 5pm on the 3rd Thursday of each month (except in January)

Where: Level 5, Northern Clinical School. The University of Sydney, Kolling Building (new white building diagonally opposite the multistorey car park). Royal North Shore Hospital, Reserve Road, St. Leonards. Light refreshments are provided at each meeting, and everyone is invited to stay on after the guest speaker’s presentation to enjoy a chat. A small donation or contribution to catering is welcomed.

Mater Hospital Meditation

Run by the pastoral care services team and held every Friday from 3.00pm-3.20pm. Takes place in the Ground Floor Lounge (at the end of McAuley ward) and all are welcome.
